get in my haus

i was prepared for the wares at haus interior to be waaaay out of my budget, but was pleasantly surprised to find most everything is totally reasonable. these items in particular would do quite nicely in my (still imaginary) sf home.

btw, this whole "not shopping for clothes in order to save money so that we can furnish the new apartment that i still have zero idea what will need slash can hold" is f'ing killing me. plus, it's really not that appealing to just buy apartment things now and schlep them across country with us, since i still have the mover's quote ringing in my ear. because, you see, they charge by weight. and somehow, despite whittling our belongings down to a few dozen boxes, a shelf or two and a bed, they still want several (and i do mean several) paychecks. naturally i told them to shove it and have pressed on in my search to find movers who weren't high when they came up with their pricing structure. i know they're out there.

ok, end rant. the moral here is that i've been hesitant to covet recently because of the frustration spiral it sends me into (uh, obviously). but yeah, haus. pretty sweet stuff that i'm so coming back to once i get the shopping green light. man, that's gonna be fun.

edyta is the bomb, vol. 597

edyta gives the most thoughtful gifts. well, she's a thoughtful lady, so naturally that includes gifts. for my birthday she commissioned vana of le papier studio (who's also her partner in crime at smitten sticks!) to make cameos of the Boy and i, which she placed into a locket. i love it. love love love it.

dead man's bones

news break: ryan gosling has a band. that's on tour. they came to chicago on wednesday. thanks to edyta's terrier-like determination, we got tickets. so we spent that particular evening standing three feet (!!!) from ryan gosling while he sang, played a variety of instruments, and was just as hot as you can imagine. and, hotness aside, it was a really, really good show. it was casual, sincere, and there was the most adorable children's choir decked out in spooky garb singing along. and um, have i also mentioned how unbearably hot that man is? jesus.

the Boy, who had been and continues to be a very amused good sport about our gosling centric hyperventilations, gave us a great laugh as we came home after the show with ryan himself greeting us at the door.

now if only i could be in san francisco with edyta when she sees them. again. jeaaaaaalous.

lines + shapes/mociun

the shopping ban means i cannot purchase one of these limited edition books, which showcases inspiration, fabrics, and photos from the fall '09 mociun line, which i'm obviously enamored with. and this makes me quite sad.

(more) bag love

i stumbled upon this divine carry on bag during an etsy search, and i'm in loooove. so very, very much in looooove. (i do prefer it in black, but this image illustrates the bags most crush worthy qualities, so brown it is for our purposes here.)

fantasy sf apartment decorating

we're still months away from moving into our new home across the country (or even signing a lease, for that matter), but i simply cannot help doing some imaginary decorating. i've been keeping an eagle eye out for cute, interesting things that i can come back to when we actually have an idea of what the new place will look like and be able to accommodate. since it is all still so very abstract, i haven't been able to get too specific with my wish list, but things like tea towels, bedding... those fit anywhere, so i've been focusing all my decorating fervor in that direction. these are a few items that are firmly entrenched on the must have list: tea towels from studio patrĂ³, bedding from dwell studio (no matter what the Boy says about the pricetag!), a few of lena corwin's pillows, plus lots of goodies from three potato four, like these very cool baskets (to help wrangle the magazines that we're so notorious for hoarding), this pen holder (since i'm so tossing the gross old coffee mug and it's overflowing unused pen collection), and finally a bag of money (to help pay for it all).

oooh, i want to shop!

mise en scene by ruffian

i needneedneedneed to own this coat. it's a bit pricey for my blood, but when you compare it to what ruffian's clothes typically set one back ($200 tights! tights!), it's a bargain and a half. i'm told the line is being sold in stores as well as online, so since i like to punish myself by getting tantalizingly close to things i cannot have, i might have to pop in to my neighborhood anthro this weekend and, oh i don't know, maybe try one on.

smitten sticks!

oh, edyta. she's a one woman whirl of energy and creativity! she's just launched a new product line called smitten sticks, which are the cutest handheld paper expressions. i see these being a huge hit for fun loving brides, or even at a really clever party. love, love, love it!

madewell city satchel

pleasure meeting you, city satchel.

puppets. puppets?

i needed to know more about this. where it is, why it is, what it is. thankfully, god created google and a few clicks after entering "giant puppets" into the search bar i learned that the puppets were paraded through berlin in celebration of unification day. i feel better now. still a wee bit weirded out, but... better.

nasty gal

i've been following nasty gal on twitter for a while now, but hadn't yet taken a peek at their online wares. tonight i finally did, and have these items to add to the 'ol covet list. can i get a what! what! for that jacket? thanks.

this is what i've been holding out for in my search for a laptop case. swoon, sigh, drool, etc.

yes? or no? yes?

over the past week or so i've been catching myself drooling over these boots. specifically, these boots styled this way. i'm not convinced this is something i could pull off though, as an average height girl with actual thighs, and not a six foot model with flesh colored sticks being passed off as thighs. but since these steve madden boots that i've been meaning to buy for a year now are on every other girl in the city, i think it's time to find a new pair to covet. so should it be these?

(man, i really ask the hard hitting questions, don't i?)

birthday shopping temptation list

so kate's birthday wish list reminded me that i also have a birthday coming up. which i'm feeling rather "meh" about this year, mainly because i know that should i receive any birthday moolah it'll be going straight into a "dear god it's really expensive to move across country" savings fund, and not towards any of these fine items listed here. but since we all know i'm a sucker for internet shopping temptation, i put together a wish list nonetheless. i mean, just look at that tux playsuit... how can i be expected to not want that?

shopstyle + lbd

words cannot express how much i adore shopstyle. it really is the best thing to ever happen to online shopping, in my opinion. despite my shopping ban, i've been looking around for the perfect, casual black dress and up until i turned to shopstyle i got bupkiss. five minutes on shopstyle and i had these six contenders. now if only i was allowed to buy one...

va va va voom bride

dang, girl. you go right ahead and rock that crazy bridal cleavage. and alexander mcqueen stilettos. and drop dead stunning dress. because if you don't, we know i sure as hell can't be counted on to pick up the slack. i'd be a hot fidgety mess in her get up, worried my ta-ta's were in danger of falling out in front of the new in-law's. but she pulls it off, with chutzpah to spare. color me impressed...

(p.s. said girl is taylor tomasi, the accessiories director for (u.s.) marie claire. so yeah, she's got a few more things working for her too.)

{via moodboard}

harvey faircloth

yeah, i really really need this entire outfit. asap. although the likelihood of it becoming mine anytime soon is even lower than normal, considering i'm on a very strict shopping ban until after we move. so far i've been a very good girl (for almost an entire month now! woot!), which is no small feat considering i see adorable shit like this every freaking day.

every. freaking. day.

shamed

erin jang of indigo bunting just recently posted about her nephew's third birthday party, which she designed all sorts of thoughtful favors for. hmmm, thoughtful. that's a characteristic i'm seriously struggling with lately, considering my schedule this month (gee, have i mentioned that schedule at all?) i can hardly remember to return an email let alone handcut an entire subway systems worth of train letters (and bake cupcakes and hunt down gummy letters and train line magnets.) so yeah, adorable party. and i'm now totally, totally ashamed.

quick! there isn't much time!

i have about 8.684 seconds to chat with you, and about 3 hours worth of backlogged blog-worthy material, so.... yeah. fml.

ok, first thing: this l.a. bungalow on apt therapy. holy shit, it's amazing. i mean, to start, it's a bungalow. i don't really need much more than that, really, but then they made it all real purty, and decorated it just the way i like it, and... wow. a fully tiled bathroom?!? uh, yes please. there are a ton of photos, each one more amazing than the last. go. see. drool.

speaking of apt therapy, you've got to check out edyta + jared's home tour that was posted yesterday. i've known for years now just how cute their apartments can be, but they've really outdone themselves this time, and in less than two months, i might add. so excellent that apt therapy took notice.

and one last thing: i'd like to apologize to my last two remaining readers (hi mom!) that i've been such a awol, uninspired mess. workworktravelworksleepwork... you know the drill. i need it to be thanksgiving, and i need it to be thanksgiving now. sadly that's how far out i am from resuming some sort of functional, creative existence. in the meantime, go check out those two home tours. oh! and this blog. it's insanely inspirational, in a d.i.y./renovate your home real nice and on a maj budg kinda way.
